The Smiler is a steel roller coaster located at Alton Towers in Staffordshire, United Kingdom. Manufactured by Gerstlauer, it features 14 inversions and holds the world record for most inversions on a roller coaster. The Smiler has suffered a series of setbacks and ride incidents, however, including one that occurred during its preview event which delayed the official opening date by two months to 31 May 2013.
Sonic Spinball (previously known as Spinball Whizzer), is a steel spinning roller coaster made by Maurer Söhne of Germany and sponsored by SEGA. The ride is located in the Adventure Land area of Alton Towers in Staffordshire, England. It is based on SEGA's number one franchise Sonic the Hedgehog. "Sonic Spinball" itself was an early pinball game released for Sega's Mega Drive, Game Gear and Master System systems, which is referenced in the ride's theming.
Hmm, wonder how they are evaluating it then?

Looking at the picture below, 2 carts on track at once. It's any rides that have that sort of feature I believe. As that's what the problem was with The Smiler due to the empty cart getting stuck.

literally the most painful rollercoaster, should knock it down not close it^
The 17 year old lost a leg, a shame since it was her first date with Joe who was also injured. She will be entitled to so much. Another injured person is Chanda Singh who has a damaged liver.
Do theme parks not have anything on the back of tickets saying something like 'You go on rides with your own risk', a bit like how race tracks do?
Does that even count when someone loses their actual leg though? But they can still receive payouts though. As some girl died on a theme park ride a few years back in the UK and think they got a couple of grand. Although there was a court case involved.
Probably a limit to said risk. It's expected rollercoasters won't kill you or seriously injure you, and an amputation and/or damaged liver is probably pushing it a bit far. Bruising or being thrown around a little is a reasonable expectation, and a risk you willingly take.
