There should be no petrol sitting for you to be able to get it on your hands when you fill up or close the cap :S

You should have stopped pumping by time you go to pull it out

With the pumps here even after you stop pumping there's sometimes a little bit left in the nozzle Hence why you see people like shake it a bit sometimes to get the last few drops out.

Yes do you not shake it.

I pump it either until it gets full or until a specific amount (altho typically these days I just do it until full) then shake it a slight bit then put it back.

In the 7 years I've been driving I've never seen a slight bit spilled

You guys must be more careful up there then haha! It's always on the floor and stuff here! Occasionally even after shaking it a bit still dribbles into the floor! To be fair though the pumps in my town are probably like 100 years old!

In my 8 years driving I've seen quite a few spillages!
