Default Have the recent acts of terrorism put you off going away?

I've been thinking about this and I'm interested to see how many of you have been put off of travelling to a foreign country, in particular countries such as Turkey, France and Germany which seem to be the main targets at the moment.

So have recent events put you off? Have you decided to remain in the UK and completely avoid going abroad, or have you just been a bit more cautious about where you visit?

    Yes 100%

I wouldn't visit Turkey now and I am slightly hesitant of going to Kos in September due to how close it is to Turkey (still going tho). I was gonna do a day trip over to Turkey but we've decided against that !!

If I had a holiday booked in Turkey France etc then I'd still go I wouldn't cancel it, but it'd always be in the back of my mind and I'd be so much more cautious and paranoid over everything

It's a shame tbh cos it's ruining the tourist industry, especially in Turkey. I was tempted to book there regardless this year cos you can get 5 star hotels with private pools all inclusive etc for like 300quid per person !! Which is insane and gonna bankrupt the owners

Yes. And I was somebody who it didn't really phase as I knew statistically it was very unlikely.

Now the thought of going to any of the northern African countries is a no (Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco, Algeria) and France, Belgium and Germany. And Turkey.

And if you wanna buy me flowers
    Just go ahead now
And if you like to talk for hours
    Just go ahead now

Oh there is no way I would go to Turkey, which is a shame because it has some very beautiful sights.

I know what you mean about it being in the back of your mind though, it sort of ruins the experience in a way because you cant truly relax.

Places like Turkey must be really feeling the impact. We had been going to Turkey for a number of years up until this year and we've had to stop and think how the little convenience shops that so many holiday makers go to will manage this year. Sad

I must admit I am quite surprised Dan Statistically it is unlikely, but you cant help but feel that way.

I'm meant to be going to Disney Land Paris in November via Ferry but I read that ferries bound for the UK are the next targets. I was worrying about it before I heard that but now I'm completely put off.

I'm more of a staycation person. My last trip abroad was Majorca 10 years ago.

I wouldn't avoid places though. Yes these attacks seem to be getting more and more frequent so I'm not surprised people are getting panicky but the only way to ever be truly safe is to stay indoors all day (and even then it's not a guarantee!). You'll be okay on a ferry, it'll just take a few days to get onto it! Enjoy

Not at all really. I mean I don't really enjoy going abroad that much anyway so I guess it doesn't have as much of an impact on me but I know it could happen anywhere so there's no point in trying to avoid certain places for fear of being in an attack.

To be honest I'd be less likely to go to some places (eastern europe and further east, parts of africa, etc.) for fear of being a white woman and alone rather than because I'm scared of terrorism.

Turkey has been on my no go list for quite some time to be honest and with recent events it's only supported my decision even more. Same goes to places like Egypt and that sort of area of the world.

@Chris; I would still consider but like especially Egypt and Tunisia now. You'd be safer on resorts but it is cities and seeing the actual country that I like.

Turkey is such a shame the way it is going because it is one of the few Islamic countries which isn't a hellhole. I've always wanted to go to Constantinople (Istanbul) and visit the beautiful Ottoman palaces, Byzantine churches and the rest of it but it's looking increasingly unlikely with time that i'll be able to.

I'd feel more safe in Burma (a country I want to go) than Turkey now. Had I said that five years ago it'd be a strange statement to have made, not now.

Oh I am so NOT looking forward to that. Its good that they've upped security though.

Definitely. The only one in my family that would still go regardless is my Dad. He is nuts.

Well exactly, whats the fun in staying on in the resort haha. Depends what you enjoy I suppose, but like you I would much rather be out seeing the sights.

Hopefully the queues will be normal in November as it isn't peak time then. The only place I actually would like to visit is Florida cos of disneyland (and the wizarding world of harry potter too) but I wouldn't avoid France or Germany just because of the terrorist attacks that have happened there. It's a bit like avoiding planes cos of 9/11 or avoiding the tube because of 7/7. It'd definitely make you more vigilant and suspicious of people that are acting weirdly but you'd still use them.
