Not sure the govt's gonna do much if some rando tries to come and rob me or something, so I'm not really sure what I'm meant to trust them on (oh right those evil Muslims -rolleyes-)?

In terms of army... well sure I guess?

Meh, there's good and bad in everyone - I suppose you could argue that with higher numbers of migrants there's potential for more bad people to enter the country. Swings and roundabouts.

Exactly. The higher proportion of followers of Islam in a country the more terrorism/conflict. Undisputable. From northern Africa, to Arabia, to Persia, to India and Burma to East Timor. At war with everybody else for centuries.

I trust them to protect me from impending doom, but I don't suppose they will avenge me.

Well it alludes to your sarcastic comment obviously.

Basically that you live in one of the most out of touch places in the country and it shows. You may think living amongst people who can't speak a word of English and having a Mayor who declares terrorism a normal part of city life (since when!?!?) is great but the rest of us would much rather have a hashtag like #BritainIsSafe than the annoyingly smug #LondonIsOpen.

If I wanted to live in a neighbourhood that resembled downtown Karachi then I would move there, not import it into a British city.

My comment was not sarcastic, London is THE global city and has been for a very long time.

My entire life I have grown up around people of various nationalities, religions and so on and it has never affected me or made me feel unsafe at all.

The road I currently live down and wider area is nearly completely Cypriot/Greek families and my school was over half Turkish students, with a range of other nationalities. At no point has mixing with these people made me feel unsafe.

I would much rather live in a culturally diverse area than a largely white nationalist, racist and xenophobic town like the one where my uni is! That is where I truly feel unsafe and not at ease.

Sadiq Khan is right, terrorism is part of city life unfortunately! A city where millions of people live is going to be victim to attacks from many groups.

Just because I've grown up around diverse people rather than just English people does not mean I'm out of touch, but shows you're intolerant.

The London lifestyle isn't for everyone clearly! London would be nothing if it wasn't for immigration

I agree with Dan that London is completely out of touch with the rest of England. I feel as though our country has a London first, sod everyone else attitude. As London is an affluent area, it's unlikely to experience the same issues that people have in say.. Coventry, Oldham or Bradford

London was an imperial powerhouse long before we had free movement of people. I do agree that modern London wouldn't be as powerful without it.

However! Terrorism is certainly not a normal part of city life.
