Correct, they do handle these things, but we made the mistake once of not specifically overseeing them, they managed to delete Habbox.com and messed up HabboxForum.com, allowing a hacker to take control of the Habbox domain, if anyone remembers that from a while ago, Habbox was down for days So now we watch what's going on, as mad said below

A typical use for the IPMI is a reboot of a locked up server, without having to send a physical data center technician over to push the button.

Data center is where the servers (ie hxf server) are put .
Basically, for the *less* tech savvy, what he's saying is they installed something that enables us (well, us in the sense of our server technicians) to remotely access the server (though its not *quite* as simple as remote access, for security measures, obviously the exact methods won't be discussed.) Basically it also sets a VPN Client up, or something akin to it, for those of you who know what it is.

Really simplified: It basically allows us to control the server with a computer, as opposed to actually having to send someone to tinker with it, such as when we want to restart it, we can remotely do it. Think of it this way: instead of rebooting your computer, you turn it on from your upstairs computer and its ready and running when you get there (except for us, we don't *get there*, it just means our site comes back up )

At least, that's one use for it

Of course, by oversimplifying I run the risk of assosciating two things that aren't quite so close together. But in general terms I'm fairly sure that's right.
It costs nothing to be a good friend.

I also use the account nvrspk on other computers.

Ah right, due to Habbox's server running cPanel software I'm under the impression that the server runs on Linux (or a very unstable version of windows ). I can understand that the card works independently from the operating system for server management/system health purposes? This would be used from your computer to the server, SSH as a vague example or VNC etc. Although I've never used this card myself I can kind of understand what Habbox would be using it for. You do learn something new ever day, eh? Thanks for the explanation nvr.

Like the serial connection 1and1 give you if you buy a server from them

You > 1and1 server > serial cable > your server.

No ethernet connection required, apart from, this card doesn't go through the hosts server
