    Interesting,

All make sense I suppose, I see what REDNECK means about the fuel it's rediculous at the moment!

I think cigs should be even more, I don't smoke myself but it's your choice to smoke and it's also an addiction, the government should take advantage of this.

Also Jeremy Clarkson would make us all dance around with flat caps, checkerd shirts and grandad trousers thats not good!

In all essence, the Spirits haven't gone up for many year's and to keep them in line with the rest of the alcohol increases, it was only fair (and predicted) that they'd go up this budget, that's why there's a huge 55p increase.

None of it comes as a particular surprise, just the usual increases, the only surprise is that supermarkets will now have to charge for plastic shopping bags which I didn't expect for many years.

In reply to the post above, I totally agree and it shows we're getting known around Europe and the world we're getting our reputation absolutely hammered, why couldn't we of nationalised something decent like British Gas?

One of the things that made me laugh was when i was watching it live about 12:30 and one of the speaker couldnt get his words out and everyone was jeering him and laughing and he was told to sit down

SPIRITS UP 55P A BOTTLE but vodka's all I drink lol, this is RUBBISH. I know duty's been frozen on spirits for like a decade but this isn't needed I thought on the alcohol issue they were just wanting to target things like white lightning and special brew which are really cheap and strong.

Do they ever announce in budgets they're going to slice the tax on something? I'm yet to ever hear of it happening, it's just up, up and up. I guess more economical vehicles may pay less road tax, but it's hardly much.

fuel is the biggest issue for me. It is expensive enough as it is and this week along it has moved from 105.9 - 107.9 in most places and the 2p increase comes in OCTOBER, so it adds a further 2p to whatever the price of fuel is in october. grr. as for beer, thats no biggy, 4p wont make much difference but still, annoying put it that way.

Socialists never cut taxes they just raise them, socialism claims it's for the people yet it taxes the very people it was designed to help.

As above, The only things I liked about the Bush Administration were it's tactics on crime, tax and climate change. Our government is in debt now when we weren't in debt 10 years ago.

We need a fuel strike, bring the country to a standstill because it's the only thing that makes this stupid pathetic government listen. Oil & Petrol is actually quite cheap but it's tax that makes it high and especially in this country, we pay the most tax in europe and we give the most money into the EU.
