I have done but now windows is loading really slow, takes 10 minutes for the windows loading screen to go off and then another 20 minutes for desktop to load. Then once I am on, I can't restore to an earlier point and no icons load in the clock corner. It also takes ages for something to load.

Taking it to the shop is the best bet if you have any sort of warranty on it, they should sort it for free

If it's taking a while to load your desktop, perhaps too many programs are set to open upon startup. I would try going to Start > Run type msconfig, then go to Startup, and assure no unneeded tasks are opening upon startup. You can also disable some tasks that error upon startup.
