It will work but it's hassle. You won't be able to use the 2.0 software for instance. Therefore missing out on the app store etc.

Well it won't be less then £200, as PAYG = paying for the full handset and whatever else you have to pay for.

well AT&T are apparently subsidising the cost of the iPhone in america by $375 so that would put a UK PAYG price at £287

Not bad imho.
