iPhone or iPhone 3G

Hey, I need your vote or suggestion really. I sold my iPod Touch on ebay and the money will go towards the iPhone. But I was going to get the iPhone 3G PAYG (Pay as you go) since I'm still in a current contract with T-Mobile until May 2009. Although I heard that it could be around £250 or more, so I looked on ebay and there is some pretty cheap First iPhones which are unlocked and in good condition then I could put my T-Mobile contract sim card in, and then that should work. < It should yeah?

So what do you guys think?

1. Save more money for iPhone 3G
2. Go with first iPhone unlocked version.
3. Buy a different phone with better features etc?

Contract. Vodaphone in italy has offered the PAYG phone around £395. Which I find stupid.

Edit; I would go with contract but I can't just cancel my current one.

I would probably just go for the older one, but as you said on MSN it might be worthwhile waiting since you want/need 3G.

Vodafone Italia has just announced that to get the iPhone 3G without a contract will cost €499 for the 8GB and €569 for the 16GB models. That's approximately £395 and £450 in pounds, shillings and pence. OK, it's still cheaper than getting an 8GB model free with an 18-month £45 contract with O2 (£810) but it's still very steep - especially since you'll still have to sign up for some form of voice/data contract with another network.

Yeah, I was just thinking that I don't actually use 3G/internet that much on the mobile. The only times I really use it is if im waiting for an important email so that won't be the problem. I still have wifi on it, so that will be fine for me to use.

Isn't the unlocking by software only? So, isn't there a chance that firmware updates are going to break the unlocking and you'll be stuck without a phone until it gets unlocked again? Also, I've heard Apple refuses to repair jailbroken/unlocked iPhones even if they are warranty. You might want to check that out as well.

The normal iPhone is fine to be honest because the 3G network in the UK is crap to be honest with you.
