Well, they are moving away from the PPC Architecture so iTunes etc wont be supported.

But that was to [ALEX] your iMac will be intel and will be fine, im just saying is that you could get FAR better specs for less money if you waited a couple of years and then it would easily last you until after Uni.

OK well you've said 2.66ghz, I'm going to assume thats a dual core?
2 cheap computers for 1.5 years each will last you longer than an expensive one for 3 years. Technology is rapidly getting better and more affordable.

Don't fork out now, and put the money you save into a fund for a new one..

"im getting iworks, and final cut pro"

I'm going to assume these are programs, before you pay for them (Unless they're free) Perhaps check if they can be pirated/downloaded? Might save you some money.

Don't get the Apple Wireless keyboard and mouse.
I have the keyboard and I can't move it any further away from the Mac then about 5 inches (it sits on my desk as close up to the Mac as it can go) and I've heard the wireless mighty mouse messes around at startup and goes all wonky when used with the wireless keyboard.

Don't get Apple ram, get 1GB of ram pre-installed then buy it off crucial, should save you a bit. And that Mac should last you about 6-7 years I reckon, if you keep it in good nick. Probably a lot longer, but it's future proofed for about 5 years.

Ever thought your wireless keyboard has a fault? I seen some of them wireless keyboards further then you have it. But yes I agree on Nick about the Ram.

Who's to say it's a fault and not because my iMac is connected wirelessly to my router?

Also, for Uni, I would suggest a laptop. Therefore maybe get a cheap iMac now (the base one) with no added extras, which will last you 3+ years, the invest in a MacBook/Pro for Uni.

I honnestly think thats just yours. I have a mate that has a mac mini with one and he can sit in his bed thats over the other side of the room and use the wireless keyboard and mouse.

I never said it was a 100% fault. I said ever thought about it? As I seem them further then your claiming they can go up to, thats all. I also wouldn't think it be your router.

There a lots of complaints about the range of the keyboard if you search Google. A lot of them also say it's due to their computer being connected wirelessly, I tried it with ethernet but it didn't help because the router is still near by.
