Go for Ubuntu if you want to, don't do it if you don't.
You can try it via Live CD if you just want a feel for it...
I personally reckon you should Hackint0sh your PC, that is if you feel up to it.

Ubuntu is linux for beginners, it's a great operating system, it's free also.

I do recommend installing it, if you become to like, remove vista but dont wipe it off yet, until you if you develop a feel for it.

As long as I can get the OpenGL and Sound problem sorted, I'll be happy! I'll have to search Google again.

I recently made the switch to Ubuntu, and I couldn't be more happy really. I use seamless mode with XP and WINE to run any needed Windows applications. I used an application called Wubi to install Ubuntu. You run it from Windows, and it sets everything up for you to dual boot with XP/Vista.

If there's no alternatives to applications you want, you can use WINE to run them on Ubuntu. If you cannot get the application working with WINE, you can use a Virtual PC with seamless. It's good for everything besides playing games .
