If you put 2x2GB in it then the OS will recognise somewhere between 2.5GB and 3.5GB of it. Probably around 3-3.25GB in your case. It may be worth just going 1x2GB and 1x1GB. Is this on XP or Vista?

Just get 4GB, download a 64-bit ISO and activate it using your 32-bit key IMO
