England aren't close to being the best team in the world, using that logic I'd say no. It wasn't that long ago they got taught a footballing lesson by Spain who eased to victory. I don't see us beating Spain/Holland in a competitive match. I think we're better than France and Italy. I think they both have teams riddled with OAPs. I'm not really sure about South America - regardless of how Argentina play should they play England they'd up their game for obvious reasons. I'm not really sure about Brazil either because I haven't seen them play much but I think I'd rather play Brazil over Holland, Spain and Germany. The Germans always do well.

How can u say we aren't close? we beat the 9th best team in the world 4-1 away, and 5-1 at home, we drew with the 3rd best team in the world, in Holland (after being down 2-0), and we played okay against then the best team in the world, Spain. We are sure to move into the top 5 in the world soon, just behind Brazil, Spain, and Holland. If we keep improving, England always compete well in major tournaments, they always up their game, and we have some of the best players in the world, and arguably one of the best in the world at this moment, in Wayne Rooney, so I ask you, why can't we be the best? (I'm also pretty sure we beat Germany not to long ago, and lost narrowly to France.)

Let me remind you what happened in the game with Holland. They were 2-0 up. They were cruising, they take the better players off. Due to said players being substituted England were able to claw their way back into the game and ended up drawing with them.

From the starting XI they put out they changed 50% of their outfield players. Schaars, Van Der Vaart, Robben, Van Persie and Kuyt. These are arguably their best players both of their goal scorers on that night. England were lucky to get back into that game and if Holland hadn't taken those players off the result would have probably been different.

Now for Spain, England received a footballing lesson by Spain who are by far the best inernational team in the world. They weren't slightly better, miles better. Their technical ability is second to none. They are the current European Champions and I wouldn't bet against them winning the World Cup.

I think we can beat France, I think we can beat Italy, I think we will struggle against Germany, Spain and Holland. I don't think we'll be outplayed majorly like we were against Spain a few months ago. I think if we do lose it'll be very close and England will create chances in every game, I just hope we can take them. Something we might not do should Heskey be starting every game, he isn't a goal scorer, unfortunately.

Now don't get me wrong, I'd love England to win the World Cup and will be supporting them 100% and I hope they do go on to lift it. However, I think the expectation of the fans following them at home have actually ensured England never go on to win a major championship.

Don't forget it wasn't that long ago since we didn't even qualify for Euro 2008, I know things have changed since then but people seem to forget far too easy this happens every god damn time England start playing well. People think they're the best team in the world and that pressure opens foundations in the side and will subconciously play a part in the players mentality.

Your argument about Croatia being 9th in the world is flawed because we all know they're not the side they were a couple of years ago. They haven't played as half as well as they did. I will start believing when I see England defeat a quality side (Spain, Germany, Holland, Brazil) ~ lets hope it's next Summer in South Africa.

You forgot to mention we were without our best side against Spain, and when Holland also substituted their better players, so did we, don't you remember that? Germany are not who they were, and I'd fancy us beating them, Spain and Brazil are our biggest worries next year.

Euro 2008 was a one off, we had a **** manager, who acted more like a friend to the players, what he did with our team was pathetic, he went into the game against Croatia playing 4-5-1? with Crouch up front, a formation that we had never played? he also played Carson, which was unnecessary, and was the reason why we actually didn't qualify.

I hope your proved wrong next year, because our team has improved so much under the new manager, it's actually quite impressive, IF we keep improving, then I am pretty hopeful.

I'd rather be optimistic than pessimistic.

Your point about Holland is silly because when we both had our best teams out they were 2-0 up. They then made changes which weakened them, evidently our changes didn't weaken us. I agree Germany aren't what they were but they always do well in major championships - England don't - simple.

You're just one of the masses who put all the pressure on England players, something which Capello has tried to stop but he is forgetting that English fans are far too fickle and will heap the pressure after beating a team 5-1 who were missing their best player, who creates everything.

I haven't even mentioned that our defending has been pretty poor. Against Holland, Slovenia and Croatia, conceding sloppy goals. We get punished against the better teams like shown against Spain or Holland, both who we didn't beat.

what? i'm putting pressure on my team by sticking up for them on a habbo forum? lol...

with good performances (as they have been giving) comes pressure, if they can't handle that then they shouldn't be football players, so that comment is totally un-needed. And yes we conceded 3 sloppy goals, against the 9th best team in the world, 3rd best team in the world, without having one of our main defenders? (ferdinand) - but the fact of the matter is, we scored goals, if you score goals you're either going to win or draw in most cases, unless the other teams attack is better than ours ~ we weren't expected to beat them (Holland, or Spain), we were expected to loose, even if we didn't play better than Holland, we still got the draw, which is all that matters, but yes I agree - friendlies mean nothing, and show nothing, but they show how much England have improved, could you have imagined England in Earlier 2008 playing Holland or Spain? we'd have been beaten 6-0.

Your point about Holland is silly because when we both had our best teams out they were 2-0 up. They then made changes which weakened them, evidently our changes didn't weaken us. I agree Germany aren't what they were but they always do well in major championships - England don't - simple.
the part where you say 'Holland is silly because when we both had our best teams out they were 2-0 up. They then made changes which weakened them, evidently our changes didn't weaken us' - surely that means that ALL AROUND the two teams were evenly matched, our subs were slightly better than theirs, and there starters were slightly better than ours?

you're always going to concede goals against the top 5 teams in the world (especially Spain, Brazil, and Holland), not even Italy would be able to not concede a goal against them, and they're the most defensive team about.

Look at the 2006 world cup, no one was expecting Italy to win it, cause apparantly all their players were 'past it'.

No one was expecting Spain to win Euro 2008, but they did, just. Hell, no one was expecting Russia to get to the semi-finals of Euro 2008, they did it ~ and I don't even need to say anything else, but remember Euro 2004? Greece European champions? But I guess you don't know about that, as you don't really follow football much.

All you need is belief, and you obviously don't have that.

I am taking the same stance as Capello, who you praise continuously yet here you are criticising his methods. We take one game at a time, we haven't played a quality side with him and won. That's a fact. I am basing my opinions on fact, you are basing yours on belief.

That can easily be compared to the classic religion vs science argument. One is a belief, one is a rational opinion based on factual knowledge rather than an illogical method of thinking. There is nothing wrong with what either of us believe. We both want the same thing, England to win the world cup yet we have different ways of going about that.

You, like the majority, believe England will win the world cup because they have qualified so strongly. Me and some others believe that we can't think that just yet because we follow football and have seen it endless times with England, something which you ironically accused me of not following. Yet it's unequivocal you have never followed England in a major championship because they have never done won anything of significance in either of our lifetimes.

Wow, now you're just taking it all of topic and talking about stuff that I don't wanna know about and that has no relevance to the thread at all. :S

And please show me where I have criticised Capello, please? really do, because that's something I have not done, either that or you have taken something out of context.

And you say you're taking the same stance as Capello, but hasn't he already stated he believes England can win the world cup? wow, you're taking Capello's stance! not.

Please, show me where I have said that we WILL win the world cup? I said we have a chance, as does everyone, even you have said that somewhere, so that comment was also about yourself.

I have never followed England in a major championship? apart from the fact I went to the England V Ecuardor game in Germany in 2006? yeh... you have no facts to even say stuff like that, after all the times I have been so pissed off and near to tears every time that England have been knocked out in the quaters.

So shoot me for having a little bit of belief and passion for my country.
