Do you think we can (honestly) win the world cup?

I was reading SSN.COM and saw people, England fans, posting saying we aren't good enough. What do you think now that we've qualified?

To break it down a bit, if it was done on players then England have:

Rio, Terry, A.Cole, Gerrard, Lampard, Rooney.

That are all world class. 6 players that could easily make someones World XI team. However, Look at other teams:

Spain:

Casillas, Ramos, Puyol, Xavi, Xabi Alonso, Iniesta, Fabregas, Silva, Villa, Torres.

That's 10 players that are all world class.

Argentina:

Cambiasso, Mascharano (sp.), Messi, Tevez, Aguero.

5 players that are world class, less than England.

Brazil:

Julio Cesar, Alves, Maicon, Lucio, Juan, Maxwell, Ronaldinho, Kaka, Luis Fabiano, Adriano, Robinho, Pato.

That's 13 world class players.

France:

Lloris, Abidal, Evra, Ribery, Anelka, Benzema, Henry.

7 World class players.

Germany:

Adler, Lahm, Mertersaker, Schwienstiger, Ballack, Podolski, Gomez.

That's 7 good players, maybe not all world class but still good players.

Italy:

Buffon, Chiellini, Cannavaro, De Rossi, Pirlo.

5 Top players.

Holland:

Van der Sar (If he is retired or not), V.D.Vaart, Sneijder, Robben, R.V.Persie.

5 top players.

Sorry for the really long post, but as you can see, on paper we aren't the best team in the world. Also, against Netherlands we came up a bit short and could have lost.

Personally I think it is between: Brazil, Spain, Holland and England, but I think that Brazil and Spain will make the final, and England will come up short.

Brazil and Spain both have amazing teams, both on paper and physically.

So what are your thoughts? Do England have the potential to win, taking account the players/managers/tactics/fans/heart?

VDS retired ages ago.

The following aren't world class:

Cole, Adriano, Juan, Lucio, Xabi Alonso, Cambiasso, Ronaldinho, Fabiano, Adler, Podolski, Mertsacker, Abidal, VDV.

I think we have as much chance as anyone else. It depends on who springs a few surprises but it wouldn't surprise me if Holland or Spain won it - makes a change.

Yes, England have a chance, but so does everyone else, of course I want them to win it, I think we will make the Semi's, but any further... I'm not sure, also, Holland are number 3 in the world you know, and we did draw 2-2 with them (after loosing 2-0) so it isn't that bad.

Also, I can't see Brazil winning it, Argentina might not even make it their, same for France, they're struggling to, not to mention Portugal look like they're going to miss out, and the Germans will always go far into the tournament, but I can't see them getting past the quaters, they're missing quality, they have limited players and have a very young squad, so if those 3 teams don't make it, (including Brazil and Germany not winning it) then England have a good chance IMO.

That's what I mean, against the top teams we will find it hard to beat them. If it wasn't for Defoe we would have probably have lost that match.

EDIT: Yeah Portugal have a slim chance, but France are 2nd in there group so should make it, Argentina are 4th, and the top 4 automatically go through and the 5th goes into a play off.

I don't think we will win it, but we should get really close with the team we have. We have the manager to help us win it, it just depends how much determination the squad can put in to win it. As long as the players put as much passion into the game as us fans do, then we should deffinately reach the finals and give it a good push to win it.

I think Spain will win.
