And, as expected, the reviews are coming in thick and fast that this is yet another shoddy Emmerich flick. Incompetent hack.

How can the film be a hack? If people like it then it's obviously wort watching, it's like food not everybody is going to love the same thing and is bound to despise certain other things. Why does it bother you so much that it's obviously going to be successful?
There looked to be too many special effects in the trailer for my liking, however I was a big fan of "The Day after Tomorrow"... might try to catch it on DVD when it comes out![]()
The director is a hack. You will find that, like every Roland Emmerich disaster film that he has ever written and directed, it will be, and already has been, critically panned by the majority who see it. This is fact that you can see for yourself. Financial success has zero to do with how people feel about it.
Let's take a look at Emmerich's disaster films:
Independence Day - widely panned.
Godzilla - widely panned.
The Day After Tomorrow - widely panned.
10,000 B.C. - widely panned.
And now already has begun the critical backlash of 2012, with people having the same gripes with it as all his other disaster pictures.
The last decent film he made was The Patriot, which was not a disaster film nor written by him, nor was anything to remember.
His films are box office successes because Sony drop nuclear bombs of marketing. Most people don't even know who he is, yet still dislike what he makes.

Surely there's a difference between critics and the public. I don't listen to critics before I watch them because they're not me and I may like it/hate it. When I read reviews afterwards, half the time the movies I like are the ones the critics hate and vice versa. I thought Godzilla was good (although I was young, admittedly!).
As for 2012, it looks good so I might watch it.![]()
But it comes down to whether people like it, watch it and have paid to do so. Not what has happened behind the scenes. I should hope he planned it and not made it up the day before filming. It's personal opinion, and therefore nobody is right in the end as to whether it's good or not! Anybody would think your jealous.

Of course there will be people who like it, but it doesn't take away from the fact that it's pure action without even a decent script. Based on what I've seen it's just them using various modes of transport to get away from the disaster and all looks pretty predictable. Not worth watching for me.
When I saw the trailer in the cinema, it said "from the makers of independence day" so I thought it's going to be a good film, might watch it then it say "from the makers of day after tomorrow" then I realised I had better things to do like watching paint dry for instance.
