In response to Sergio's post, some fish when constipated float upside down. Normally a lot of healthy fish are flushed as people assume they are dead when infact constipated.

DarkEnemy, it may sound like a silly concept but it could be all manner of different reasons that caused this death. Not necessarily the same effects would kill new fish.

Jordan:A, most vets have a standard £25 consultation fee so before you even get to the vet the receptionist would have laughed you out the door as there is nothing they would/could do to a gold fish.

Also, sorry for your loss, its always such a shame when you loose a fish but I hope your new and existing will be happy and live for many years.

Ive one of these fish, a barb. Mine is almost 6 years old and is blind, for the past 2 or 3 days he has lost a lot of weight and is definately on his way out. It is wierd as they arent really a part of the family but I dont want him to die. He is also that big that we wont be able to flush him, we're going to have to dig a hole for him when he finally does die. He is about 9inches long by about 5/6inches tall and he is about an inch think so thats a massive fish to flush xx

Im sure some vets have emergency thingys but yeah I think it is pointless trying to take a fish to the vets, i didnt think >.<
And ive had my fish for like 5 years and its nearly died twice, once it jumped out the tank and lost all of its scales on the side of its body and second was when the cat was trying to get it sticking its paws in the fish bowl!!

How can you tell it's blind? Does it just not react to movement or something?
