Cameron has stated that he has ideas for the creation of sequels, but has said absolutely nothing else. The film came out just under 2 months ago, it's too early for such announcements, and no studio would ever announce 3 or 4 sequels at once.

Every submission to IMDb is investigated, which is why unless there is an announcement for Avatar 2, it won't be on there. There hasn't been and it isn't on there. IMDb is the number one website for film, not Wikipedia. Because IMDb is fully moderated, nothing "dubious" goes up.

Budget $237 million Gross revenue $2,204,693,000
Pretty impressive, thats what $1,967,000,000 profit. Im sure that there would be more films, with them sort of figures I dont think they would not make another film.

Christopher Nolan has made no statements about his involvement with another Batman film yet on its IMDb page hes attatched as director.

Therefore I'd say theres more scope for an Avatar sequel with Cameron at the helm if he's said he'd direct another if there was success for the first film.

And I think Im right in thinking Dreamworks commissioned 3 sequels for Shrek after its initial success back in the early noughties.
    something.

There is a difference between commission and publically announced.

There will be a sequel to Avatar.

In terms of Nolan, yes, he is on there because they can't put "(rumoured) around a director, and since he is most likely going to do it, he's there.

The fact of the matter is, NO sequels have been announced for Avatar. Will there be sequels? Yes. Everything you read on Wikipedia is some kid trying to start rumours. The 2020 date and title is especially humorous. The only credibility of those listings is the first sequel and date, because it's common sense speculation that most Hollywood sequels are released 3-4 years after the first.

Can't trust Wikipedia. As far as I know Cameron is finally getting to work on Battle Angel, which I've been waiting for for two damn years! He has officially stated that he would like to do a trilogy for Battle Angel, since the original graphic novel it is based on could span the length of three movies (and should if he wants to do it justice), but of course he'll only do that if the first one does well. It's pretty much guaranteed it'll do well now though, after the success of Avatar.

OK thanks for clearing this up. Just for the record, I know Wikipedia isn't necessarily a reliable source of information but still I rarely find false information on it

It's not that much profit, the budget you mentioned was only for making the film, another 200mil+ has gone into advertising and I'm sure there are more costs. But it's still very impressive. Of course there's still DVD sales, game sales, toy sales, etc, etc.

The studios won't push James Cameron. They gave him about 80million dollars after Titanic (note: James Cameron gave up his rights to his fee to make sure he could finish Titanic. Everybody (including James) thought Titanic was going to be a huge flop.) and let him do whatever he wanted (which was deep see diving and other stuff in the depths of the ocean, and later on working on getting the technology for Avatar).

As for the sequels, they will come. As Neversoft said, he's first continueing his work on Battle Angel. I'm not sure he's going to do all 3 Battle Angel films if they decide to make a trilogie, he already backed out once, I think (and he also backed out of doing a Spiderman movie).
Maybe he'll do Battle Angel and Avatar in turns?
Anyway, the next Avatar film won't take that long (once they start production), the first one took so long because he didn't have the technology and because they had to create a fully working environment on a new planet. They now got a huge database with all those skins, so it's now roughly just a matter of copy pasting the things in (obviously post-production will still take a year or so).
