I agree that they were a major punk icon, and were by far the most popular, but saying they were the best just because they were the most popular is rather...silly.
And as I replied to the girl, they weren't the start of punk, they were the start of commercial punk!

I don't like any of the bands you mentioned.

If anything, some punk is okay. Like 45 Grave or The Screamers.

bad religion all the way, rancid wasnt as good as operation ivy or the dance hall crashers i believe....but u get ur own opinion

PS. Ska is commonly mixed in with "punk" beats and lyrics their just to good to seperate.. example: lagwagon, life in the mafia, and some one i cant remeber

Oh but I had a funny PM on here the other week, because in one post I wrote "*** pistols are one of the worst punk bands" anyway, it was this girl who said "my dad said to tell you to take a history lesson because *** pistols were the begining of punk"
that made me laugh for almost a minute.
Wow that had nothing to do with this thread...but oh well.
and I don't agree with people calling bands "posers" they're just doing their job! and making a lot of money! they're not forcing anyone to listen to them.
I think you should add a third option to the poll, the "i don't give a rats behind just give me any music with a twotone beat!"
or maybe without the two tone beat part, because most probably wont get that reference :/
Oh look...I seem to have posted another long boring comment again.
You don't know long boring comments until you have read some of my posts. I personally don't think you can judge a whole category of bands simultaneously. New age punk vs The founders and pioneers. Bands like Good Charlotte and Simple Plan are just following what's popular and probably do have some real talent but they would rather create more pop-punk type of music because that is what's gonna pay the bills. Some old punk I like and some old punk is just trash. I like Green Day and used to be a very big fan when I first watched the longview video and bought the Dookie CD. Too many new age punk bands are just mimicing alot of the other bands and that's what I don't like. I can't stand Good Charlotte and Simple Plan and in my opinion those are 2 of the worst new age punk rock bands out today. I wouldn't insult people for listening to them but they really do lack that quality of impactful music and they are certainly not paving the way for any future generations of rock music.
