If he was smart it what he was doing, he probably could have. Good thing all the extremists are ******s.

me and @The Don; were debating about whether he really is sane. i was thinking he is and that it's just his beliefs that he's been conditioned to think you know like suicide bombers but i'm not sure. i think anyone that kills so much people and knows what the consequences will be MUST be insane/not all there as he really hasn't achieved anything? i dunno much about the topic but was there any reason he targeted those exact people/areas? :S also like you said he said it was self-defense which quite clearly it wasn't and no-one with half a brain cell would try to persuade otherwise?
idk i just said what the reported on the news :-P

We don't call islam terrorists insane, we don't call hitler insane and we shouldn't call brevik insane either. He merely has radical views that took him on a murderous campaign that killed many innocent people and should be locked up accordingly.

Norway still carries the death penalty so I think that is ahead of life without parole in many peoples minds. I remember where i was when it happened, couldn't believe it then and still find it hard now.

Does someone actually have to be insane in order to kill people? I don't think jihadists are insane but they still carry on what they were told to do. It's pure hatred and Islamophobia imo.

If he's found guilty I agree he should face the consequences anybody else would face.

What I find shocking is that those who examined him call him "sane". What definition of "sanity" are they using? He clearly is insane. There's no way he acted on a reasonable, rational manner and is in no way "normal". Just because he understands what he did and why he did it does not meet the definition of sanity. It wasn't reasonable behaviour at all, and by calling him sane they make it seem as though he acted like any normal, reasonable member of society :/

Last person executed in Norway during peacetime was 1876, so I think it's fair to say they well and truly abolished the death penalty a long time ago.

I don't really see how it matters whether he's sane or not, he should be punished and put in prison for life either way. Whether he goes in a normal prison or a mental hospital it doesn't matter. I just hope the court case is over quickly as there's no doubt to whether he did it, it'd be an injustice to the families to have it go on for months.
