Anders Breivik Trial

Anders Breivik is on trial in Oslo for the murder of 77 people last July in Norway as he planted a car bomb and went on a shooting spree.

He said to the court that he "acknowledged" the acts but doesn't accept criminal responsibility.

The thing I found most shocking is he claims that it was in self-defence.

It's gotta be decided if he is sane or not and also, he claims to be part of a secret movement "The Knight's Templar" but no evidence has been found to agree.

I think the initial thoughts were that he wasn't but he went to testing which found him to be sane which shocked many people.

that's indeed what I heard. The first testing wasn't correct - they didn't want him to seem like a 'normal' Norwegian citizen and the insane argument gave a kind of excuse for that.

I think that Norway is just shocked that one of their own has done something like this.

You guys should watch the documentary that was on the beeb last night about it, it was really really good.

It definitely made the case that he was sane. I personally agree that he is sane, or the diagnosis firstly given to him was incorrect. He was primarily diagnosed as paranoid schizophrenic which I disagree with, as he fits into none of the categories except for "bizarre delusions", which I personal don't believe he has. He has very very weird ideas but they're not delusionsm they are simply fears and a very different ideology.

me and @The Don; were debating about whether he really is sane. i was thinking he is and that it's just his beliefs that he's been conditioned to think you know like suicide bombers but i'm not sure. i think anyone that kills so much people and knows what the consequences will be MUST be insane/not all there as he really hasn't achieved anything? i dunno much about the topic but was there any reason he targeted those exact people/areas? :S also like you said he said it was self-defense which quite clearly it wasn't and no-one with half a brain cell would try to persuade otherwise?

To be frank wheter he is sane or not shouldn't matter in this case, if his outbursts cause massacre to that extent then he should not be walking the streets freely.

He targetted the island and the government building because they were related to the ruling party of Norway who supports multiculturalism. Breivik believes that in under 20 years islam will have taken over all of Europe so is obviously opposed to multiculturalism. He targetted the island because it was a summer camp for young supporters of said political party.

He says it's self-defence because he was protecting himself from the future of the islamic invasion. He believes he has started the war between Europe and Islam as a whole.
