okay I understand if it's aimed at younger kids but older kids why dont you just get a 3DS and slide it to 2D... :S

what happens when you let younger kids play with a 3/DS. New design obviously prevents that from happening. And for the older people who are smart will get the 3DS and keep the slider down if they can't play with 3D.

This is actually a really good move on Nintendo's part. Won't see cheap Vita's or iPods etc for kids to play games on.

I agree with the above poster, this is actualy a pretty good idea. This is a hard-to-break ds that has no 3d ( which kids cannot use as it damages their developing eyes) and is cheaper! Parents are more likely to buy this than current models.

What interests me is that there is only one screen and it's simply seperated. The whole thing is actualy touch but the top touch screen wont be used.
Bonjour, la noirceur, mon vieil ami
    Je suis venu te reparler
    Car une vision piétinante doucement
A laissé ses graines lorsque je dormais
    Et la vision
Qui était plantée dans mon cerveau
    Demeure toujours
    Parmi le son du silence

It's actually a really good idea but some people are putting their opinions before any actual logical thought behind the console.

It lacks 3D, which was a huge waste of time and had made the console significantly more expensive in comparison with this new device. It's just a slate in design rather than a clam shell, which would solve the problem of children (and some really silly adults/teenagers) breaking it off the hinge by accident, which accounts for quite a lot of damaged 3DS consoles.

Not forgetting it is coming out near when Pokémon X and Y are to be released, which are two games that many people are thinking about getting when they do not necessarily own a 3DS already or are in the Nintendo bubble, and the price will draw them in to it. A cheaper console with a good game - it makes sense.

The only problem is that the available space on the front is really badly laid out, but that said - it's keeping all the buttons where you'd expect them to be if holding a 3DS - in the centre.
