Well, considering we've had numerous incidents in the last few months, I'd say that post approval does need to be on. Worth noting that all the incidents we've had are all new accounts, so even though they're not bots, they would have been stopped. (And presumably, they would have been banned when you got round to approving the posts, you would've seen that they joined to just spam).

And why is post approval set to one post? Wasn't it 5?

I guess it's up to the forum manager in the end. But personally I think the forum looks a lot better without people spamming it up.

AND PHIL IS VIEWING THIS THREAD!

    Fancy sorting it out?

My favourite part is that Phil picked this thread over the 10 or so repeat threads that would be shown below this (assuming he views the forum via New Posts/Activity stream - surely no sane person browses the forum through the main page).
I browse the forum through the main page (A).

Why were all of that guys threads removed anyway? Surely keeping one in habbo in General was fine since the thread itself looked ok to me .

Whilst that's true, there's bound to be someone online who could deal with any incident of a new member spamming and it doesn't appear to happen that often anyway. If it became a daily thing then yeah, I'd suggest post approval .

Except that the last few times, there wasn't Does nobody remember when that guy kept spamming the forum and swearing everywhere and eventually it was @lawrawrrr; learning how to moderate for the first time that sorted it out

And we still occasionally get the bots that sign up to advertise DVD download links.

A few incidents over the past few months isn't a big issue. We used to get spambots and stuff like this most days of the week so Post Approval certainly isn't as necessary as it was previously.

Yeah it did used to be 5, it was put down before I was Forum Manager. I don't think it's an issue right now but if things start to get bad again I'll raise it.

    Fair enough.

Just for discussion though, what are the negatives of post approval? The only one I can think of is the delay in approving posts for genuine users. (Which I imagine could be a lengthy delay considering some of the delays I get on my post reports at times).

That's the only negative as far as I'm aware. I actually didn't turn it off, Matt did so maybe he has another reason for doing so.

Sorry I was busy doing something away from Habbox...

It was turned off because the amount of spambots reduced for a brief time. If it's becoming an issue again then it can be turned back on, all Phil has to do is flick the switch.
