    Because 'Alex Salmond resigns' is wrong.

    You either have or haven't resigned, if you announce to resign you've not resigned.

    Is he still the head of the party? Yes. Therefore he's not resigned has he? No.

    He'll resign in November. Until then he has not resigned.

    Now you're just being pedantic. He has effectively resigned by announcing his intention to do so. If I resigned from comps now, my perms would take a few days to come through but I'd have still resigned

    Well no because it's every thread title he does.

    Announcing my intention to resign IS NOT me resigning.

    He's still head of the party, can still do anything that he's always been able to do in his power and will still be responsible for the day to day running of the party until he resigns, which will be November.

    Intention to resign != resigned

    In politics it would be. He's effectively just a seat-warmer for the next person rather than resigning with immediate effect, which would leave the SNP (and Scotland) with no leader/First Minister.

    It's quite sad. Even though the people voted against independence, he was an incredibly good politician. I didn't like him as I found him a bit of a bumbling fool when it came to key issues regarding the referendum, he certainly has done a lot for the Scottish people and unlike many politicians these days he had one thing many lack and that's passion. Hopefully Sturgeon (if she does become First Minister) helps reform Scotland and push for better union for all of the United Kingdom.

    Let's face it. It wasn't ever England vs. Scotland, it was the United Kingdom vs. Westminster.

    I truly did like Alex Salmond as a First Minister, he did some great things. He was so devoted to Scotland, it's a shame that he's resigning .

    Gordon Brown as First Minister seems appealing. What are the views in Scotland?

    No-one likes Gordon. Esp if England delays the Devolution as he was one of the ones preaching that.
