I love the idea of having one box for my games, tv and everything. But the Xbox isn't that. You still need a Sky box for example. On a smartphone, if I was told "HEY this is also now your laptop" (but you need to buy the bigger screen and keyboard dock for that to be the case), I would laugh at it.

I am certainly not saying the PS4 is this, but at £70 cheaper for what will essentially give me the same gaming experience I would say it is a good choice. Having said that, when I buy one or the other in late 2014, I will simply buy whatever the majority of my friends have...

Not at all. They already had cross chat, the whole sharing clips xbox is doing aswell, im sure they will have some phone > Xbox stuff. Just the main thing there are trying to push is tv and its not as awesome as they make it sound. it does nothing for gaming and i don't like it. Just like the kinect when it came out. It was mostly gimicky party games that came out nothing that was promised when it was first revealed.

And, you're saying something that lets you watch TV via another box is crap.
    Yes

So surely Xbox/PlayStation should get rid of their DVD/Blu-Ray functionality right, since we have players for that?
Sure you've used this example already. The Ps3/4 uses a Blu ray drive to read games why shouldn't they allow it to read disks for films and music? And the difference is we're not putting a blu ray into a player to then connect it up to the ps4 to then display it on your tv.

And phones should get rid of calculators and clocks, because we have those already, right?
Like i said before these were useful. instead of carrying a planner around with you can do it on your phone and with a clock you can set an alarm something you can't do on most wrist watches. There are all improvements no one is sitting wishing for a something that gets between you and watching something on tv.
It would be less ridiculous if the Xbox One replaced your cable box.

I ignored my friends and got a Ps3. made lots of new friends. couple years down the line bunch of them came back to PS because of the better games.

With the XB1, you can just say TV, and it will switch to your TV feed. I can't do that right now, so I say that's an improvement for me. I'd definitely take voice activated TV rather than having to scroll through the different outputs on my TV with my remote.

(And when I go around someone elses house, trying to figure which remote does which...)

Why is it such a problem to have TV on a console? So what if the PS4 ever brought out something like that in the future? Would you disown it?

I just don't understand the hate for it, I really don't

I did the same with this generation, having said that my current friend group is a fairly even mix. I am not referring to online friends though, talking about real life people - I am not just going to ditch them to find people who have the same console as me haha

I am hoping they pick PS4 - but ultimately both consoles are exceedingly strong - and I wonder how the sales would be if the Xbox was cheaper again...

Or take 2 seconds to press the button on the remote. Or in my case it does it automatic if i turn my Ps3 on.

You can press buttons on your remote as well.

They should know which button to press
Why is it such a problem to have TV on a console?
Because its for playing games not watching tv. thats what a cable box is for. Like i said faire enough if it was replacing the cable box but its not.
So what if the PS4 ever brought out something like that in the future? Would you disown it?
If they went about the same way as Microsoft then Yes. They would have to convince me it would't effect me playing games and would have to optional not mandatory.
I just don't understand the hate for it, I really don't
I don't understand how you can defend it. They told people to "deal with it" when they rumors came out about the always online, told people to get an 360 if they had no internetz, Then because Sony was slaughtering them they say "they listened to your feedback" utter lies. They did a complete 180 on there policies.

You're saying your PS3 enables you to watch TV when you turn it on? But XB1 is crap for doing so?

    Words fail me.

And if an XB1 is for playing games not watching TV. Why do you have a PS3? You can browse the internet, watch movies etc. Game consoles are no longer for just playing games. I couldn't even tell you the last game console that could even fit that definition, the PS1 could play music discs!

I'm defending it because the XB1 is getting slack for doing more than games. Every single console in the last few years has done more than play games, it's called evolving... The PS4 will likely have most of the features over the XB1, except this 'Enables you to watch TV instantly' thing (which isn't even available in the UK, so for us two, it's not even relevant?).

I honestly can't see why being able to watch TV from your Xbox suddenly makes it the worst thing in the world? The fact is, if XB1 didn't do it, someone else eventually will. Technology will go that way, look at Google Glass and all that voice automated technology stuff.

Oh, and then of course, there's the obvious point. If you don't want to watch TV on your XB1... Don't.

Fair enough, I can understand all the criticism over Kinect and the price, but because you can watch TV? Really? You can watch iPlayer on your PS3/XB1, that's the same thing, just not live. Shall we get rid of them?

Microsoft revealed the console and said nothing but tv tv tv tv tv tv tv tv and when i got to games it was bloody EA. You don't announce a new GAMES console then start talking about TV.

I'm not arguing over evolving and doing more features. I'm complaining that they announced it as a new games console and spoke about TV. I'll say it again. TV. It's not in the UK at launch but will be within the next year or so. They way they handled the reveal is all wrong. They were going at it as if the TV function was the Primary reason for buying a the console and not for the games.

I honestly can't see why being able to watch TV from your Xbox suddenly makes it the worst thing in the world? The fact is, if XB1 didn't do it, someone else eventually will. Technology will go that way, look at Google Glass and all that voice automated technology stuff.
People would do it but they would have handled it better than Microsoft. They should have done it as follows
    - Talk about the achievements with the 360
    - Reveal Xbox

    - Talk about the console itself and the new interface
    - A Sequel for people to wow over the graphics so Forza for example
    - Bring in EA to talk briefly about w.e
    - Mention some other features and mention the you can plug in your cable box to watch tv aswell
    - Say about exclusives and there new IP's and show a couple of them.
    - Call of duty
    - Finish on Halo teaser (You tease it so people talk and come E3 when they announce one the 2nd one comes as a suprise)

Well not saying thats perfect but i would rather have watched that then there one.

Oh, and then of course, there's the obvious point. If you don't want to watch TV on your XB1... Don't.
    Yup

Fair enough, I can understand all the criticism over Kinect and the price, but because you can watch TV? Really? You can watch iPlayer on your PS3/XB1, that's the same thing, just not live. Shall we get rid of them?
Never worked for me when i tried it so never used it again.
Thing is i rarely watch tv as it is. Its the principle that Msoft came out and tried to ram down the Xbox one as some revolutionary device to watch tv on and neglected to talk about the games they just brought out EA and Cod and went meh.

    I'll repeat.
Theres nothing wrong in adding other features to the console as long as the don't neglect the fact that at the forefront it is a Games Console and shouldn't try to change it into something else just so they can drag people into there new "vision of the future" If they want to make a box to compliment the tv then fine but call it some thing else. The 2 options where put out for people and people chose not to follow Microsoft and there vision because people don't like it, don't need it and don't want it. And now that majority have went to Ps4 they have gone back on there policies not because of feedback but because Microsoft's plan failed. If they had announced that the Xbox One would replace all your multimedia devices and your cable box then they might have been onto something and the name might have made more sense. Then having a true All in One device might have been a bit more appealing. Anyway I'm ranting so going to finish it here.

"oh but it's new and improved" yeah that's what they tell you because at the end of the day they're not going to undersell ****?Remember that Kinect video a few years back with the Fable kid? That'll never happen because Microsoft have *********** about the potential of Kinect since day one.
The thing with Kinect is that it has potential to be really cool, but all the games made for it thus far have just been utter ****. Even that Fable game was so awkward to play. If Kinect 2 is better at picking up motion then fair enough, but Kinect 1 just wasn't sensitive enough (beyond jumping, crouching etc)

The lack of decent games were down to the adoption rate being quite low in terms of kinects to 360 ratio. I reckon now every console will have it, it's a definite that a few decent games come out (Hopefully a boxing game) Literally just had the idea for a free multiplayer kinect game. Quickdraw, basically like the old west quickdraw malarkey, with kinect You get 5 seconds countdown, then you "draw" and shout bang as fast as possible, whilst getting it on target

Pretty sure Kinect was one of the fastest selling peripherals...
