Alcohol and cigarettes I can agree with, but more tax on petrol?! I'm movin' to Slovenia when I raise the money!

Who's up on nuking London We just have to move anyone who is related to this problem and a few people we don't like. Boom, done.

I think I'm about to make myself very unpopular, but meh

Fuel is taxed far too much, but in the Chancellor's defense, he hasn't actually raised taxes on it this year. Gordon Brown first announced the 2p rise in his 2007 budget, and given the current situation, Darling has delayed it until October. No, it's not perfect, but it's better than the timetable that Brown had given us.

And to be honest, I agree with the tax rises on alcohol, polluting cars and cigarettes etc.

Why should we pay more for Alcohol & Cigarettes. We already pay absurd prices for them. This government is just a total disgrace.

It is in shops, not pubs and clubs. Just because it's cheap now, is that an excuse to make it expensive.

Well, I say I support the rise on alcohol and cigarettes because a) I don't personally smoke (at all) or drink (much) and b) Both have been known to wreck lives, although I'm not condemning anyone who drinks, and to a certain degree, smokes in moderation. I can see it will be very annoying if you are a moderate smoker/drinker.

Just from my perspective, the rises are good and don't really effect me.

Yes, because it's aiming to stop the binge drinking. One of the main reasons for binge drinking is because it is cheap, and easy to get. And so what if its also high in pubs and clubs? They get their fare share of wreck-heads too.

Yet 24 hour drinking is allowed?

Do you really believe Labour when they say it's to stop binge drinking?

Well they have to do something don't they. Yeah, 24hr drinking is wrong - I can actually admit when my party does something I don't believe in.
