Meanwhile O2 confirmed that "prepay iPhones" are also to be sold at Apple retail, O2 and Carphone warehouse. These unsubsidized prepay iPhones will not require a contract but are expected to cost around £350. Cost for a subsidized iPhone 3G from O2 ranges from Free to £99 for the 8GB model and from Free to £159 for the 16GB model depending on the service plan chosen. For reference, the original iPhone was priced at £269.
Im guessing PrePay is like PAYG? Hmm. I was thinking about just putting an O2 PAYG sim into the Original iPhone. Hmm.

Apart from 3G, a GPS and a redesign, there is nothing between the two iPhones. Unless you really want those features, get an older one.

I'm guessing a contract canceling fee would be

amount you pay p/m x months left.

We’ve just been tipped by an inside source about the pay–as–you–go pricing plans for the iPhone 3G.

The 8GB model is set to cost a massive £370, with the 16GB model clocking in at £470. That means you could be paying up to £200 more than the final price of the original iPhone, which came in at £170. The new figures tally with the Italian fees, announced two weeks ago, starting at €499 and rising to €569.

It is not yet clear whether this will include any minutes or text bundles. However, if you want to hack your new iPhone to run on any network, it certainly won’t come cheap.

An O2 spokesman has just told us, "We have no update on pricing for PAYG iPhone at this time. We will let you know more about this when we can." While you’re waiting for official confirmation, be sure to check out our iPhone 3G Bible for the full skinny on what to expect come 11 July

This is a rip off in North America. You must get a two year contract, and although the initial 3G price is cheaper than the original phone, after the two years it ends up being $160 more!

The fee for canceling my old T-Mobile contract was only like 30 quid.
But it varies on contract I believe.
If you jailbreak your iPhone you probably won't be able to update to V2.0 and miss out on the app Store etc.

I know this already, but Im sure someone or a group out there will make it available to unlocked iPhones.
