    naw america hasnt had anything to do with europe since 1776, when we broke from england. even when the u.s. was a british colony i dont think anyone considered it part of europe

    america was incredibly prosperous at the beginning of the 20th century, as opposed to many parts of europe which were suffering economically or socially. the potato famine in ireland is a good example of why people moved to the u.s. america held the idea that anyone could go from dirt poor to wealth with hard work, which at the time was pretty significant.

    Im confused how you can be doing art history yet know nothing about america/eu

    all i know about the statue of liberty is that its italian - the boat driver said it was anyway when we went past a miniature one on the harbour
