iOS 5 is compatible with iPhone 3GS, 4 and 4S (obviously). As well as iPad's 1, 2 and iPod Touch 3rd and 4th Generations.

iMessage is pretty cool 'spose, but I've had the GM so haven't bothered to upgrade yet.
It's pretty useful that it switches to iMessage rather than SMS if it knows the other user is using an iPhone with iMessage
