Personally my phone is useless to me without jailbreak, so I'll be excitedly awaiting an untethered jailbreak before I update iPad and iPhone to iOS 5

Managed to get it to work by putting the device in Airplane mode before clicking Update.

iTunes just said my phone was unable to be restored and that was it..

My iTunes told me it was unable to restore so I took off the passcode from my iPad and it worked
