    Right, well try configuring your PC for networking. Go to my network places > Set up a small home or office network. Follow the prompts until you get to the part asking about internet connections. Choos the option about another PC being connected to the interned not the one saying "this pc connects directly to the internet". Follow all the prompts to fininish and restart it.

    It's a shot in the dark, but it may work.

    I'm stuck for now then, but maybe another random idea will come.

    You definitely sure the modem is plugged into the uplink port on the switch. It must be for it to work properly.
