I submitted this idea a few months back, I wanted it to work alongside the rep system though, I only wanted the 'Thanks System' to work in certain forums - like Technology discussion, ect.

I feel it would be a benefit to the forum if it were implemented.

By the way, it won't stop any such spamming (if you want to call it that). People will still post the words 'Thank you' to get a post count. I'm pretty sure a system like this is a slightly too mature for a forum like Habbox (or any Habbo fansite). I don't mean that in a bad way, it's just I see it used on subject-specific forums which are mainly used by middle-aged adults as opposed to a place like this which is mainly teenagers or even children.

In quite a considerable u-turn, having been thinking about it overnight (yes - I really do sometimes) I think you're right.

The forum I have installed it on is relatively speaking quite small with an older demographic as the userbase.

So yeah, although I am a fan I think in this instance it is not suitable for us.

If you have it forum specific, e.g. the Technology forum, where most people are mature then I think it could work, I don't think It'd work if it was implemented on the whole forum though.

With regards to your post Stefan, I don't use the tech forums but when I have browsed I often see stupid little arguments breaking out. I'm not saying that's a bad thing because that'd be very hypocritical of me but I don't think you can say it's a more mature forum because even without using it actively I'm aware that there are numerous geeky arguments :8

Yeah that's mostly right I wouldn't say the tech section is more mature than any other it just seems that way from the outside because we talk about things that normal people don't understand

Yes, but only letting certain users having it depending on their e-maturity isn't fair on others, and what is stopping un-"e-mature" people from just going to them forums and abusing it.

I don't think the main issue is maturity anyway, it's the fact it won't be beneficial to HxF when we have a perfectly functioning reputation system.

Like I have said before, I have tested it on a much larger forum than this, another community one, and its not a good idea. Reputation system is the best system for community forums.

The only time I can see a thanks system being useful (that is, assuming that it's basically rep that's visible to everyone and post-specific rather than user-specific) is on illegal download forums like big musicshare and warez sites, whereby the amount of "thanks" on a post will determine how legitimate the download appears to be. On a community forum, as I think Saurav said, it's totally worthless
