I don't think its music snobbery it's just an opinion and in my opinion comparing the king of rock Elvis to One Direction is wrong in my opinion - he may have not wrote any of his own songs (don't know much about him) but he played instruments worked hard etc (not saying One Direction aren't hard works though).

My point is one Direction to me just feels like the next JLS. A band just bringing out stuff the same as the last band just for another generation. That's What Makes You Beautiful could have had any other boy band singing it, it just felt like the ultimate standard boy band song and it got the song of the year award.

I'm quite glad the x factor are allowing songwriters to perform their own stuff these days, play a guitar etc. but I wouldn't be surprised if they tried to dictate stuff to them, how to look, what to sing, changes to make them more modern etc. It's all about making money really and sometimes in my opinion that comes at the cost of the performers own identity.

Obviously all I am saying is my opinion - I'm not claiming it's a fact. There are some great songwriters out there writing stuff for many people many who won't be anywhere near as famous as those singing it.
Please, I'm not defending One Direction as credible, ultra-talented and game changing musicians. I'm just saying there is absolutely no such thing as "real" music. In response to your dubstep example, technically all music is noise.

Playing an instrument doesn't define someone as a "real" musician either, a talented vocalist, rapper or producer can be more influential and talented than someone who does play instruments. Elvis was hardly a virtuosic guitar player, he wasn't known for that. I adore Elvis but he is the King for different reasons. In fact I'm pretty sure I've seen a picture of a One Direction gig where one of them is playing guitar anyway.

Of course they are just the latest fad moulded for money, and evidently it's working. The point is there is absolutely no such thing as "real" or "proper" music.

The art or science of combining vocal or instrumental sounds (or both) to produce beauty of form, harmony, and expression of emotion.

What One Direction produces is music. You're trying to debate the credibility of their music and whether the fact they are manufactured to the core demeans their status as musicians. It's still music whichever way you r opinion sways on that matter.

People do use real music these days as an opinion though - It's not what I'd call music but obviously yeah it's music.

I don't mind them and their songs can be quite catchy, but I'm not obsessed.

I think I've heard 2 songs by them, yes, they were catchy. Wouldn't pay for their music or even take the time to download it and I can't say I've ever typed them into Youtube or Spotify either.

Are they all dating a US Disney girl? Anyways, no they aren't attractive, well maybe if you're a 14 year old girl And no, I couldn't get all fangirly over them as they are just too cheesey and for use of a better word 'gay.' (There really needs to be a better descriptive word there, because clearly they aren't gay but you know what I mean )

Best boyband in the world? Seriously, these boys have never heard real music from real boybands. They need to venture back a few decades and lose their cheese!

Not a fan at all. But then again not my type of music.

It annoys me that they dress like they're ten years older than they are
