Let's face it, you cant expect an eight year old to determine which sex he or she has a prefrence, because obviously it will choose the opposite sex. A young child sees its parents and other people acting in a hetrosexual way. But when you develop the knowledge and the feelings deep inside you can determine.

When i was young i didn't know i was gay, and i can't think of anything which would make me want to become gay. I am gay, thats all there is to it, nothing to do with how i was brought up..

Oh, and by the way, stop flaming people in the thread if they don't agree with your opinion - are you unable to have a mature discussion?
um, how was what i said "flaming you"? :/
and i've never spoken to you before, so wth.
yes i can have a mature discussion, but what you said was rubbish, and you were trying to sound clever with it.

everything you're saying is agreeing with me saying your surroundings play a part in it..

I think i figured it out for real this time! Its you chromosomes, where your DNA is stored. Your chromosomes/DNA is what makes you...well you. So your chromosomes or dna, maybe had something different go on than those of the streight people. Yeah...i think i figured it out!

if it was all defined by genes, there'd be a pattern, and a way of working out how many kids in each family would be gay etc

I never said you were the one flaming? Please, don't jump to conclusions so quickly.

And, as for the part i italic'd, where have i said surroundings take part in it. I said surroundings take part in many beliefs and opinions, for example, you are likely to recieve some opinions from your parents.
Are you gay? Because if you are, that is the only way you can specifically tell me that if you were brought up a different way you believe you would be straight. If not, then you cannot be 100% certain, seeing as you have not experienced it yourself. Either way, you opinions are still valid by me. But, just a thought.

so i think i'll stick to being open minded about this.

oh, and another thing. you get like adults that like leave their marriages to have a gay relationship, and they used to be attracted to women, but then changed to be attracted to men? surely that can't be from their genes?
The thing is with that is that the men who were in these relationships with women were pressured by society to fit in to the hetrosexuality culture. Twenty years ago being gay wasn't as accepted as it is today, if a teenage boy admitted his undying love for his best friend he'd probably get something done to him by his parents.
If you were gay back then it was possible you'd get disowned by your family and friends if you had a partner. But things are different now, hence why they find it easier to express their love for the same sex.

Dont forget everyones diffrent.. I dont believe there is no right or wrong answer for this topic.

I personally, have come to the conclusion that i was born gay.. as i've never had feelings for the female sex ever..

    that's just me.

I do sometimes wonder over the fact that people are actually born gay or straight etc.. and there social activity and there enviroment makes them unsure of what they actually are.

I think an example of this was the "TODD" Storyline some of you may have seen in the soap, Coronation St which is screened in the UK..

Todd was engaged to a woman.. and he cheated on her with a guy. The writers included signs to show that Todd was not happy in the relationship with the woman before this "guy" who he had the affair with came along.

nice story line that was as it happens..
