I'm running into some turbulence here on the netbook. It's installed fine it seems but I'm going through the welcome setup screens now and it's freezing and taking a very long time to load - I'm on a screen with just a black background now. I don't think this was made to run on a single cored Atom - I think I'll need more juice!
Edit: to update when you set it up you specify a Windows Live account. I put my GMail since I sign into MSN with that. It worked on initial setup fine but upon rebooting when it asks for my password and I put it in it says it's wrong. This seems like a problem...

I'm not crazy, ask my toaster.
Not sure if anyone has mentioned this but was on a Blog when I noticed an article. Windows 8 is going to support Mounting VHD and ISO files. Pretty handy in my opinion and will mean people wont have to rely on virtual CD drive Software such as Daemon Tools and MagicDisc (MagicISO counterpart). Although I wonder if this will put a huge chunk in those companies earnings.

I've fixed the login problem. Actually to fix it I've had to go to passport.net and change my WindowsLive password (I'm not sure why that actually ended up fixing it - perhaps because I had a gmail account for my WindowsLive account as opposed to a @hotmail or @msn address which strikes the question, how do you login if you're not connected to the internet?). Either way I managed to get in. Boot time was 48 seconds and shutdown time 23 with nothing open or nothing third party installed. Not great performance I have to admit but I was running it on a three year old single core netbook on the slower of two 12GB SSDs (and I'm actually not sure how slow that SSD is but something tells me it might even be slower than the average hard drive's R/W).
If/when HP cancels my online TouchPad order due to lack of units (even though I ordered days before other folks who did get theirs (they so lied about first come first serve!)) I was contemplating buying a Windows tablet (with battery life 5 hours +) that I could install Windows 8 on. I think even though it couldn't have sucked even worse than it did on my netbook, that it will probably be just fine on something with a little more power to it.
The only problem with this plan is I think there's around 2 Windows tablets that I know of and -1 of those are available to me locally. If anyone owns or knows of a pretty good tablet machine I'd appreciate being able to check into it.

Ah yes, I do quite like that feature. I also like how you no longer need a 3rd party application for the task bar to be extended onto multiple monitors. I've also come across the following:
Microsoft demonstrates Windows To Go, running Windows 8 from USB
- Windows 8 will default boot to a Windows To Go drive if one is inserted into a system
- Core drivers will be bundled in Windows To Go to avoid situations where Windows Update is unavailable
- It will support USB 2.0 and 3.0
- There is no Hibernate mode in Windows To Go
- Windows To Go will operate on legacy BIOS and new UEFI firmware
- Crash and Dump will be available for Windows To Go

Here's a long list of features or things Microsoft is working on in Windows 8:

Anyone know how I access paint? lol...
When will Microsoft making Windows have a pretty interface like Mac OSX?
I know it sound ridiculous and impossible, but hey, this is what the customer/user wanted.
The current Windows 7 interface is glass/aero like, and I'm bored and sick of that.
I need something new and more delicate look like Mac OSX.
Windows 8 sure is amazing in term of functionality but I doubt bout its interface.![]()

I would say "glass" (as you described Windows 7 Aero) is more delicate than what looks like aluminium which you get with Mac OSX. The Mac look is pretty miserable, why would you want something grey? The Windows interface is possibly more customisable than the OSX interface, so if you do not like it you can easily change it

I do try on many vs available over deviantart such as http://fatezoom.deviantart.com/art/Ueis-251181664 which is similar to Mac OSX.
And I even made one similar to Mac OSX http://phd7.deviantart.com/gallery/#/d3eq70x
But ya must know, it is not fun to customized your "pure" Windows. It feel like you're stripping and rapping Windows.
And I also try this beautiful glass vs for Windows 7. But it is getting boring.
So I think Microsoft should consider the beautiful Mac OSX. For you, Mac OSX might look boring and dull but for me it look so pretty and delicate. Ya should digg it up a bit.
I have a MacBook and find OS X's interface a lot less efficient than Windows. It's the little things that add up, like not being able to scroll through pictures easily in full screen mode and not having a 'real' maximise button.I do try on many vs available over deviantart such as http://fatezoom.deviantart.com/art/Ueis-251181664 which is similar to Mac OSX.
