I have a made a subdomain for my site but I cannot work out how to upload to that site as I could with the normal do you have to upload images and layout differentl?

Well normaly in cpanle for exsample say you had the subdomain Boo.yoursite.com
In your sites public_html files there will be a folder Boo, or with what ever the sub domain is, and that will be where the files come from

Yes but do I need to create an images folder in there?

No just upload all of your files for that site into the folder for your sumdomain.
