The surface underneath

Underneath the surface
beneath the broken skin
here is where I hide.
Somewhere deep within.

Hidden in my darkest parts
the real me is weak
the outside may be smiling.
But the inside’s dark and bleak.

The darkness is never ending.
Bad memories haunt my mind.
The frightful future lies ahead.
The world seems so unkind.

The world is so unkind
I feel I can’t go on.
I can’t stop myself from hurting.
My happy memories are gone.

The memories of happiness
Seem to have drifted out my heart
The pains become so strong
I’m so lonely, torn apart.

Inside I’m torn to pieces.
I can hardly remember why
And when I lie alone at night
I can’t do anything but cry.

At night I lie there crying.
Wishing life would change
Waiting for my happy ending
Time just seems so strange.

Time has no meaning.
Days drag on and on.
No reason for existing.
The world to hide from.

So here is where I’ll hide.
Where nobody can see
Hidden until prayers are answered...
Somewhere deep within me.

Within my very being
The real me is way beneath
But that is where it’s trapped.
My surface underneath.
