    when addding a background you use for example:
    HTML Code:
    <body bgcolor="red">
    but that isnt very exact as you cant tamper with how dark etc it is. This is were hex codes come in. They are just a six digit code which represent a color but the difference is you can have varied colour ranges. so in hex it would be:
    HTML Code:
    <body bgcolor="#FF9900">
    which is also red for a tut on this although you wont need to know all this try http://www.thybag.co.uk/index.php?p=Tutorials&ind=21 Good luck.

    Basically what Splinter said.

    Most people use the numbers, the Hexademical codes.
