I think you may need msn plus or some program so you can see what other people have in their display name. What version of msn do you have?

Well I think it's because most of them turn out like this; ☺☻♦◘ etc.

Try copying it off someone elses name if you see them.

Either they don't have a certain 'language pack' update which updates all character codes or they have a lower version of MSN or a different one.
