Tips
For your first guitar get an acoustic starter pack or an electric starter pack they cost around £50-£130 depends though. Usually with them you get the guitar, amp(if electric), guitar strap, plectrums and a beginners guide to guitar book or something like that. Find an expierienced guitar teacher or if you can read guitar tabs go on some websites to learn your self some songs. Once your good enough you can make up your own tunes for songs.

Its better to learn from someone, or learn yourself. It isnt that good learning from books because there are so many ways of actually playing, that they dont really say. Ive had a teacher for about 2 and a half years Dont really need it anymore, but you can always get better. I just learned Welcome Home by Coheed & Cambria, Ive been playing that for hours over the weekend.

A tip for learning hard songs, is to take it very slow. Do everything very slowly, and after a while, you can do it faster.

About the slow thing that Strat said, it's all about teaching your muscles the patterns in which they should move. That is what it is for drums anyway so I assume it is for guitar also.

Also I tend to count out loud for complicated rhythms:

Maybe you could say the rhythm or note you play:
