Try to check all of the files. Anyways, if it is not the latest it may be ilegal. Try telling him who is his "friend" and then contact his "friend".

what you need to do is ask the customer for the customer number he installed with if he doesnt have one then that means it's illegal also you try uninstalling the forum then uploading and trying to install it again and if it doesn't ask for customer number then it's illegal

If its too good to be true, its probably illegal. This sounds too good to be true, somebody "giving" you a vB.

Well, Wouldnt it be illegal since they are "redistubuting" the vbulletin forum?
