Default The Guide To A Good Forum

    Chooseing A Host:
The 3 main types of forums are:
    VBulletin
    Invision Power Board
    PHBB.

PHBB is FREE of charge, so your forum won't cost as much as a VBulletin or Invision power board would be. If your very serious about your forum and want to make it a very good forum with revenue coming out of it, I would suggest you use VBulletin. If your making a little forum
maybe a fansite, I would suggest PHBB as it is free and easy. If you choose IPB, I would have to say it's the hardest forum and for it's money it's not a good deal.

    Choosing what kind of forum:
You could make a forum about anything really. I would suggest you make your forum about 1 thing for example: Golf,PS2,Habbo,Computers. Insted of making a forum for everything or about the whole internet. I suggest you make a forum you know alot about of. There is no point making a forum about websites if you don't know much about them and you don't know html etc much. If you enjoy something like the Sims2 and your good on it and you have a fully good understanding of it you could make a forum about that.

Tips For Any Kind Of Forum.

When starting off a forum don't do to many boards as when people go on to your forum it looks very unactive. You want your audiance to think you have a active forum otherwise they won't register normally. Just put them into groups and round them up. Then as ure forum grows you can add more boards.

    Picking Moderators And Admins
Picking moderators and admins is a hard job to do.
I suggest you give the people admin and moderator jobs to random people on your forum who you think deserve the job. Mods and admins have to be mature and strict on the rules.

    Building A Commuinty
When your forum opens you want to build a commuinty. You shouldn't be looking for members and just ranking your forum on how many members it has. When starting a forum you should think that I would rather have 25 active posters than 100 members with a couple posts.

How To Get People To Register On Your Forum
Some very good ways are to sign up to lots of forums and make a new thread about it. Also putting it in ure signitature is a good way. Make sure you advertise to the right audiance. There is no point avdertising on a computer forum if your forum is about football, you should much rather advertise on a sports forum. You could also pay for advertising which is the best way of making your forum popular, but it costs more, however it will get you more hits. You could also do competitions for money or habbo furniture depending what your forum is about, there is no point if your forum is about music and saying win 3 HC sofas if you do 300 non spam posts. You should say win a album if you do 300 non spam posts.

    Thankyou,
    Cameron

From your first comment im doubful you have ever even run a phpbb never load a Vb or a IPb =.=
Common? IPB is WAY WAY better value for money that VB, i mean pleace? are u unable to count or somthing.
IPB is far easire to use, The Admin Panel is way better layed out, and it has obvios easy to use modiertaion functalty.
VB's is crap and unfunctaonal, and its ACP is just a lump of links "/

IPB is Superiuor to VB in every way "/ And is alot better value for money.

Free Options PHPBB or SMF are probaly best options, SMF has more fetures by defult but PHPBB is easyier to customise and add hacks to IMO "/

I disagree with this information how can you give admin and mod rights to random people, those random people might be forum stealers scammers?

You should of wrote give admin rights to people you trust and not to people who deserve the job, what will happen if they don't no how to use the admin tool and deleted stuff lol.

    -Unpredictible

Edit: I just realised that theres 3 topics at the top of the page telling you about it lol.

I have run a VB forum before and been a admin on a IPB board before and currently running a PHBB forum.

Also you will get to know the people on your forum quite well. So I said give it to random people on the forum who deserve it. The owner should be active so he will get to know which members are mature and which members have a good post count that don't spam is what i'm trying to get across.

And considering IPB was free not so long ago and it hasn't got amazingly better since you have to pay for it. Out of the 3 forums I said IPB is the hardest for me anyway.
