Like the other's said, You should of found out his sexulity first. Also, I don't think you should of just asked 'Do you like me?'. As it may of came as kinda shock to him, and he that why he said that stuff to you. You should of kinda started a conversation, and asked him about his sexulity and then you would know whether you should of the asked that question or not. And he may not have said those things either.
