    Default A Window Of Happiness

The snow falls softly onto the ground, a idellic day in the usually noisy city of New York. The clouds swirl magically in the sky, dancing in an array of bright, facinating colors. The reflection of the ice sparkles in the dawn light as children play, gleefully throwing snow balls. Parents smile as their children dance around the sparkling white ground. Helen Jameson smiles as she watches through her window, smiling.
"You never know how beautiful the city is at Christmas until you know you'll never see it again" Helen sighed as she walked away.
"They said there's a 20% chance of recovery love, don't give up" came the reply for her husband Derek. Helen smiles as she picks up a photograph of her three children, Damien who is 8, Jonathan who is 6 and Jessica who is 4.
"How are you going to explain it to the kids?" Helen asked, worried at the prospect of leaving her kids.
"I'll have to find a way" replied Derek, his head bowed.
"Let's go for a walk, yeah?" and so Helen and Derek walked along the corridors of the hospice, passing room by room of people just staring out of their windows, it was like magic. They walked past endless streems of tinsel and walked into the huge hall which was overpowered by a enormous Christmas Tree in the middle of the room. The Tree had everything a tree could need, the Tinsel wrapped around it and twinkled in the light, the baubles twinkled in the midst of the lights, the lights shone brightly, flashing a beautiful melody of warmth and happiness. Helen and Derek sat down and held hands. There was no need for speech as they were trapped in the moment, the moment Helen could forget everything she was going through and could become entrapped by the beautiful tree. After 45 minutes they walked back, slowly re-entering the melancholy white room she was being cared for in.
"Don't you just love Christmas Eve?", smiled Helen.
"Yeah, I do", Derek smiled back. "The kids are coming soon". Helen's face lit up and within 15 minutes her children we sat all around her. Helen took a deep breath in and explained what was happening to her children.
"Very soon Mummy won't be around anymore because Mummy is very ill. I just want you all to know that I love you and I will always be watching you and whenever you feel like you can't cope just look up in the sky for a bright star and know that is me, twinkling in the sky". Helen smiled as her children snuggled up to her on her bed. They lay for hours sleeping and then the clock struck twelve.
"Helen, Kids, it's Christmas!" Derek said cheerfully the children jumped off the bed and looked out for Santa but Helen's body lay lifeless. After calling a nurse Derek's assumption was right, Helen had slipped away quietly and painlessly in her sleep.
"Look, Daddy, is that Mummy?" asked Damien staring out the window. Derek walked slowly to the window and looked outside. In the dark night sky was one single bright star that twinkled. Derek smiled, a tear in his eye.
    "Yeah, that's Mummy".

This story is entirly fictional but comes from different experiences I've had within my life. Hope you like.
