Girl hangs herself due to BB ban aged 11

A SCHOOLGIRL of 11 hanged herself after her mother refused to let her watch Big Brother.


Yasmin Browder used her dressing gown belt to make a noose after being sent to bed for misbehaving.


Mother Jill Morey, 38, told an inquest that Yasmin lost her temper after an argument about decorating her bedroom.


Jill, a care worker from Shoreham, West Sussex, said: “She said, ‘I want to watch Big Brother’. I said, ‘You are not’.


“She went to the bathroom, where I thought she was having a shower.”


The inquest in Worthing heard the bathroom door was forced after 45 minutes by Jill’s boyfriend, Mark Webb.


The distraught mum said: “The belt was around Yasmin’s neck and she was unconscious. I was hysterical. I tried to resuscitate her three times, trying all I could.”
Yasmin was taken to Worthing Hospital but died 40 minutes later.


The inquest heard that Yasmin had been on “cloud nine” after a weekend with her father Paul Rayment-Browder, 42, and her “strop” was out of character.


Coroner Roger Stone recorded an open verdict, adding: “This was an impulsive gesture which went horribly wrong.”
