I think they should be removed, and have the usernotes back.

When people in the 'spam' forum get 1, they always have a fit - whinging at Eternalmasque or Error. It's getting really out of hand now, because the forum is just full of threads entitled "Infraction from Eternalmasque" etc. Even some of the staff are complaining.

I think the usernotes should come back, that way people can't cry over them because they can't see them.

I dont think it's any different than before, as people could see which moderators edited their post before because it said 'edited by ... at ....'?

Sorry, 'tis my old age I guess you wouldn't have to remove it, just edit it in someway, so people don't whinge about it (not singleling (sp?) anybody out).

I think it would be better if the users weren't alerted of them. I think because users didn't know if they had usernotes or not (or the exact amount), they weren't as concerned about them.

But the Infractions system is ALOT easier than usernotes in my opinion.

Even if they arent alerted, they can check in usercp

I think Jin or someone should do it so users dont get a PM and cant check in usercp either. What the point of letting them see their infractions when they couldnt see their own usernotes

But people won't do that. They'll moan about getting infractions, then they will get an infraction for breaking the rules (again) then moan about it (again). It's like a chain.

On the old usernote system users were suppose to be alerted of them via PM especially if they had offended before. But unfortunatly the mods grew weary of the effort they had to make to just warn one user which is why infractions are a benefit as it all can be done from one page.

The infraction system = the hip youngster of usernotes

    Allow me to explain,

Previously we use to use the usernote system, when this system was introduced and a user commited an offence we would log it in the usernotes and PM the user. Unfortunatly around november 2005 mods grew weary of the tedious task of pming the user.

Now the problem with this was that a user lets say "user A" who hasnt read the rules would post something, their post would be edited by a mod and a usernote would be logged and thats the end of the warning process.

Now userA isnt aware he/she has broken a rule so userA does the same thing again, and they get warned again in the same way as before. UserA is still oblivious of the fact that he/she has been warned twice now as userA cant view the usernotes about his/hers account.

Before long userA gets a suprising message that they have been banned for continuous rule breaking. It is frustrating which I believe we can all agree at times from the hotel, when you have been banned for something you arent even aware of. Unfortunatly in these cases appealing the ban gets you no where and you will need to wait the forum ban to end.

The advantage of the infraction system is that it is used in the same way as the usernotes system it logs the offence and a moderator contacts you at the same time.

BUT now users are no longer ignorant to their offences, they are aware of what they have done to recieve the infraction, they know what post / thread it was given on and they are even contacted with a more elaborate explanation as to why they have been infracted.

I would just like to add:

ALL infractions are permanent, this is so the infraction always exists like the usernotes we use to use.

The points have no meaning other than a simple count of how many infractions you have.

Mods have no control over infraction length or point value.

The infraction warnings such as "Spamming / Pointless Posting" are all pre-defined, moderators can not edit these this is why we also PM you to elaborate on the warning.

If you have collected a few infractions it doesnt make our mods harsh or you a bad person, It just means you may have done something wrong like posted in the wrong forum (by accident maybe) or had a large signature image. It is purely and simply a way that the forum staff can keep log of all the warnings given to you and so that you are aware of the warnings you have recieved.

PS: Infraction system means people are less likely to be banned for reasons beyond them.

PSS: Moan and grumble as people may but the only reason as to why they are moaning and grumbling is because they now know they have been given a warning as oppose to the usernote system when they were ignorant.
