    Default Merchenting guide

Welcome to the guide to merchanting.
To begin with I shall give you the run down on what merchanting is:
    - Merchanting is trading as simple as that, however to be a successful a merchant you must be able to turn over a good profit on each item you sell sometimes just 20gp profit on an item can be good enough if your selling in huge quantities for instance this can be done with lobster’s you can buy them raw for 100-150gp each and then if you’re a confident cook proceed to cook them all (good xp aswell) and sell them on for 200 to sometimes even 250gp each, however if you are just in it for the xp then you just need to search around for the low price again in the case of lobster you can pick up 1000 cooked for only 180k and sell them on for 200k.
Next I will show you the tips on how not to fall for common scams such as the quick switch and the money changer’s:
    - The quick switch is a term used to refer to when a item scammer quickly changes the item in the first trade screen for instance people often do this with varying sorts of logs, the simple way around this is to hold the cursor over the item and look up at the top left hand corner of the runescape game window you will see the name of item, if its different to what you were first told it was immediately leave the trade screen by clicking decline and the proceed to use the report abuse button as shown below.
This window will then appear simply enter the name of the player who has attempted to item scam you then click on rule number. 2 item scamming, Jagex staff will then proceed to look into it. However if you abuse this system you will be severely punished. However if the person your trading with manages to switch items or the amount of money before you realise in the first screen and you click accept, do not worry simply VERY CAREFULLY CHECK THE SECOND TRADE SCREEN if something looks wrong then simply decline the trade and report them in the previously mentioned way providing they have attempted to scam you. What’s a good thing to merchant? I here you say well once you’ve started the game and got to know what your doing, it’s time to earn some money around 30k will do, you can do this from mining essence and selling 30 each (mining this requires a lot of patience) or you could get your wood cutting up and sell willow’s to people who fletch (you can do this even on free worlds because many p2p people come to free to get a “bargain” you can sell willows to them for around 20gp each.
Or if your p2p you could always run flax for them in seers village you are generally paid 100gp each per piece of flax. But anyway once you’ve obtained the suitable 20-30k or so you can start merchanting items, the best item I have found to sell at this level of money was the rune scimitar you can pick some of them up at a mere 20k and sell them on for 30k, indeed recently I purchased one for 25k and made 100% profit by selling it on at 50k, however and occurrence like that is very rare, anyway now you’ve made your first bit of profit, begin to repeat the process until you have around 200k you can now do what I mentioned previously in the guide about buying and selling lobster’s, this process can often take peoples and 200k and turn it into there first million.
But now you’ve got that million gold piece’s what to do with it?
It’s time to invest, look around to see what items are steadily falling in price (stay clear of these) and look to see what prices look like there going to sky-rocket with a million gold piece’s just a few days ago you could have picked up a blue mask, now they are retailing around 1.7mil and the full mask set went from 2.7m to 5m+, so what merchanting really falls down to is luck, can you find that right buyer or seller, can you spot when price’s are going to plummet or skyrocket, these are the traits that you as a merchant will have to pick up.
Now supposing you do it, you crack the 10m barrier, what then?
Well over the last few month’s party hats (yellow and purple are the only affordable ones at 10m recently, purple was 8.3 and yellow was 9.5) have had a big price change, they’ve gone up and down the trick picking them when you know there at there lowest (to find out look out for the different prices, if they look low then they properly are, buy one hold on to it for a while (DON’T BE TEMPTED TO SELL CHEAP) and the price should go back up for the simple reason that every day they become older and rarer, so people have made a million gp profit at a time on these, and this, this is how all the top merchant’s make a living it’s a dangerous game it’s the rare item market, for the prices you should check the below part of the guide.

So that’s a run down of the prices of rare on April 30th 2005 try your luck on the rare market, and one last thing, NEVER BUY AND SELL IN GILDED ARMOUR.

Next up is the names of runescape’s most famous merchant’s if you see these people be aware that they know what there doing, they often charge higher prices than other player’s and pay less for item’s to make a bigger profit so be aware they are almost certainly going out there to make a profit, DON’T be pressurised into selling for prices that you aren’t comfortable with.
    - Duke Freedom (supposedly runescape’s best merchant).

    - R2pleasent (supposedly responsible for crashing the prices of party hats in the month of March 2005).

    - Scottwilson1 (not very much known about him, predominantly use’s the official runescape forums to buy and sell in rare items).

The three players mentioned above should be treated with respect, don’t go around hassling them, they’ve earnt their cash fairly as should you. And lastly quite possibly the most vital piece of information you’ll need…
    A MERCHANTING MAP
    World 1 Varrock West Bank
World 2 Falador ParkFollow these rules and idea’s and you should also one day become one of runescape’s best merchant’s and have a pile of cash that look’s like this.I shall now leave you with these final words:
    “Buy Low, Sell High”
