What is a bump??

When people post a thread sometimes i see them say bump. What does it do???

Sometimes, if nobody posts on a thread for a while it will become inactive from the new posts page, or 1st page of forums (eg. trading). A bump is normally after no-one has posted on a thread for a while, and so the user is bumping the thread back up into the popular pages!
