Is there any point in actually putting a hard drive into my PS2? i have the big fat one. any advantages/disadvantages?

I presume a hard drive for PS2 would be for game save purposes, if so, no point, you can probably buy memory cards with like 1 gig memory for like £10-15 and it's less risky, you could mess the whole PS2 up if you do the hard drive thing wrong
