Default What would you have done?

In case you didnt know, a few days ago there was a school shooting in Colorado. A 53 year old gunman walked into a classroom and made the kids line up against the wall and one by one told the students whether or not they could leave. He chose 6 students-- all blonde girls-- to stay in while the others could leave. Its pretty well spoken from that what he did to the girls. So after a stand off, the SWAT team barged in, and in a panic, the gunman shot and killed one of the girls then himself.

Now to add to this odd story, a kid from the school claimed in an interview, that he told the gunman that he didnt want to leave after he told him to, and it took a death threat to make him leave. The kid was seen as a hero. But yesterday it was revieled he lied about it, and he wasent even in the class.

Obviously I was pretty furious about the kid, but it made me wonder what I would do if I were in the class and I was asked to leave. There have been a few real 'kid-heros' in these situations (like when a football player tackled a gunman in a school shooting after he was shot). Now cant say that I would have come in and brought the guy down, but I can definatly say I would have thought about it. Maybe grab a fire extinguisher and go back in. But again, cant say I would have done anything.

Just curious, what would you do?

If I was in a room and he said I could leave, I would run the heck out of there.

How are you a hero for staying and almost dying?

You would be more of a hero for getting out and calling the police.

I would just leave, it's not worth trying to be a hero if it's most likely your going to be killed.

Sure, i'd feel guilty, but at least i'd still be alive.

Well, in american media, being a hero doesnt mean saving lives, it just means standing up to evil, even if youre stupid for doing so.

Id probably leave for good too, but you know how when youre nervous you have those split-second thoughts of irrationality? I probably would have had one of those.

It's easy to sit behind your comp. and say "I would not leave".
I would leave, as I wouldn't risk my life, as much as I would feel sorry for the ones who have to stay in the calssroom.

    Sorry

    he was a kid

maybe if he fought back and took the gun and saved everyoen he would be a hero

but if he stayed and got shot and got the man angry I dont see how that is a hero

Well exactly, thats what I think to. But doesnt 'hero' get attention for the news? Im not saying he would have been a hero, but thats what people saw him as.

Its like people overusing the word 'miracle'. Why does everything good that ever happens have to be a miracle?

Yeah but the story he told was that he said he didnt want to leave.

not that he ran at the man and tried to fight him and was sent out of the room.
