Theres this boy that I really like, but i'm not sure if he likes me, my friends are telling me that they reckon he does as they've picked up a few signals from him (if that makes sense:s ), but Im too shy to talk to him and I think hes shy too, I'm really not sure on what to do, as I don't want to make and idiot of myself.

Awk, I say just go for it! If you like him and people you trust think he likes you - why not just go for it?

Build up your confidence and try and work your way into getting a conversation with him, from there start talking to him more - in person or even on the computer! That way you'll be able to build up a friendship with him firt and decide whether you really do want to get with him or not, then take it from there and try and sort a relationship! :]
